What are the eligibility requirements?
You need to be 18 or older, have a high school diploma or GED, live in the U.S. and be authorized to work here, and be looking for full-time work when you finish. Residents of U.S. territories are eligible. DACA or Temporary Resident status needs to be valid for at least six months after your program starts. Associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree holders are welcome, and a technical background isn’t required — most learners arrive with none.
How much time does the program take?
Plan for about 18 hours a week once you’re in the program. How It Works shows what a real week looks like.
What kind of computer do I need?
A laptop or desktop with 8GB RAM, Windows 8 or newer or macOS 10.15.1 or newer, 50GB free space, high-speed internet and a webcam with audio. Chromebooks, iPads and tablets can’t run the third-party coursework software. If you don’t have a computer that meets this, tell us during admissions — we may be able to help through our Admissions Computer Access Program, though spots are limited, and our Help Center lists free and low-cost options in your area.
What is on the initial assessment?
Sixteen questions designed to gauge problem-solving and reading. It measures your potential, not your existing tech skills.
Do I need a degree?
No. A high school diploma or GED is the requirement, and degree holders are welcome to apply.
Does Merit America accept international learners?
You need to live in the U.S. and be authorized to work here. For DACA, Temporary Resident status or an international degree, see Applying to Merit America.
What does the program cost?
You won’t pay anything to apply, and the program fee is the same across Career Tracks. Four ways to cover it are on our Cost page. Essentials programs are at no cost.
