Your 6-Week Roadmap to Career Readiness

Over six weeks, you’ll move through a consistent four-step cycle designed to build real workplace readiness: learn a professional skill, apply it through weekly reflection or activities, translate it into your professional collateral, and practice articulating it through an AI-powered interview and/or simulation modules.

Orientation & Goal Setting

Establish your professional foundation. Explore how personality shapes the way you work, build a growth mindset, set SMART career goals, and complete a skills assessment.

Week 2

Professional Identity

Uncover transferable skills, unlock career interests, identify a target role, craft a professional introduction, and submit your first resume draft.

Week 3

Communication & Service

Develop workplace communication skills and customer service excellence. Learn the STAR method and update your resume with results-driven bullet points.

Week 4

Conflict Resolution

Build confidence navigating workplace challenges. Draft a cover letter, continue to practice interview questions, and begin tracking and applying to jobs.

Week 5

Process Improvement

Strengthen problem-solving and process improvement. Finalize your professional collateral (including LinkedIn), complete a mock interview, and continue building a job search tracker.

Week 6

Personalized Path Capstone

Learn how to build mental agility, explore how to give and receive feedback, and navigate unspoken workplace norms. Complete your personalized plan capstone.

Everything you need to know about the Career Readiness Essentials course and how Merit America works.

Is the training in-person, online, or both?

The training is 100% online, but it’s interactive. You’ll work through self-paced coursework and weekly activities, connect with peers, and access career coaching through the Merit America platform — a blended online environment with live virtual workshops and independent work.

You’ll also use widely adopted digital workplace tools along the way, including Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, and the Merit America Learner Portal.

What are the admission requirements?

To be eligible for Merit America’s programs, the following must be true:

  • You have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Associate and bachelor’s degree holders are welcome.
  • You are a resident of the U.S. and authorized to work in the U.S.
  • DACA and Temporary Residents must have a status/visa that does not expire within six months of the start date.
  • Residents of U.S. territories are eligible for our program.
  • You are 18 years of age or older.
What does a typical week look like?

Plan for about 10 hours per week. Each week follows a consistent cycle: learn a professional skill, apply it through reflection or activities, translate it into your professional collateral, and practice articulating it through AI-powered interview practice and simulation modules.

Most of the work is self-paced, with weekly live virtual workshops designed to accommodate working adults, so you can fit the rest around your job and family.

What kind of support will I receive during the course?

When you join Merit America, there’s a team dedicated to your success.

Your career coach helps you build the professional and job-search skills you need — from refining your resume and preparing for interviews to networking effectively and navigating job offers. They’ll also work with you to chart a clear career path aligned with your goals.

You’ll also work alongside a group of talented peers as you complete the coursework together.

Can you guarantee me a job?

We can’t guarantee job placement or salaries, but we do provide a structured training curriculum, professional career development, and dedicated job-search support. Because of this, the majority of job-seeking alumni are placed in new jobs within three months of completion.

What does the Career Readiness Essentials program cover?

Merit America’s Career Readiness Essentials program is a 6-week program designed to help you bridge the gap between technical skills and employer expectations. The focus is on making professional workplace norms explicit and building durable, job-ready skills.

Across six weeks, you’ll learn how to:

  • Develop a “Personalized Path” Capstone that outlines your specific next steps for ongoing professional growth or an independent job search.
  • Identify your professional strengths, set SMART career goals, and translate your experience into a compelling professional introduction.

  • Navigate simulated workplace challenges, resolve conflicts, and apply process improvement and problem-solving skills.
