Joel Portillo

Joel is dedicated to creating pathways toward social and economic mobility through education. As a first-generation leader of color, he has devoted much of his career to founding and scaling high-performing high schools in California, ensuring students receive the best opportunities after graduation. Noticing that many of his students did not see college as a feasible option, Joel began exploring alternative postsecondary pathways. This led him to Multiverse, where he led the software engineering apprenticeship program, helping apprentices secure roles at Fortune 500 companies. Joel earned a BA in Psychology from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, wine tasting, skydiving, and indoor cycling.
