1. Submit Your Application

The first step to joining Merit America is applying for one of our Career Tracks. Currently, we offer programs in:

We encourage you to apply for the track that best aligns with your interests, but rest assured, you can switch your program choice during the admissions process if needed. To help you decide, take our “Which program is right for you” quiz and start your application today!

2. Answer Initial Assessment Questions

After submitting your application and meeting our eligibility criteria, your next empowering step is to complete a 16-question assessment. No need to stress or study – prior tech experience isn’t required. This assessment focuses on your problem-solving skills and reading abilities, giving us a glimpse into your potential.

3. Complete Merit America Overview

Upon completing the initial assessment, you’ll be invited to complete the Merit America Overview—a comprehensive look at the program’s expectations and requirements. You’ll gain insight into core components such as the curriculum, learning structure, available support systems, and important details about cost and payment options. This step takes approximately 30 minutes to 2 hours.

4. Confirm Your Admission

Finally, you’ll confirm your spot in the next available cohort. Don’t miss this crucial step! Interest in our programs is skyrocketing, and cohort spaces fill up quickly. As other applicants secure their spots, you’ll want to ensure yours doesn’t slip away.

How long does it take to be accepted into the program?

The timeline is really up to you! Most applicants complete the admissions process in as little as a day, although this can vary. Various factors might prolong the process, such as deadline extensions, changes in track choice, or personal circumstances.

I‘ve already applied and selected a career track, but now I want to change it. Can I still switch?

While we encourage applying for the track that suits you best during the initial application, if you have a change of interest, you can always switch your program choice during the admissions process. You can find more details and compare the different track’s syllabus here. There’s no need to submit a new application. Once you’ve determined which track is best for you, simply email us at admissions@meritamerica.org, and we’ll provide your next steps.

I applied some time ago. Should I submit a new application?

No, and we’d be glad to have you back! If you’ve previously applied, we can locate your application and update any contact information or track preferences. Simply reach out to admissions@meritamerica.org and one of our team members will gladly assist you.

Do I need a laptop or computer to complete this program?

Yes! To ensure a smooth and optimal learning experience, we have certain device requirements for our program. The basic requirements are:

  • A laptop or desktop computer with at least 8GB of RAM,
  • Operating System: Windows 8+ or macOS 10.15.1 Catalina or newer
  • Processor: Intel Pentium 2 GHz or faster, or an equivalent processor
  • Minimum of 50 GB disk space available
  • High-speed internet access
  • A webcam with audio input

Please note that Chromebooks, iPads, and other tablets do not meet the necessary requirements as they do not have the processing power required to complete the program effectively.

What If I don’t have a computer?

We do expect applicants to come prepared to join the program with their own device. However, we understand circumstances may arise that prevent having a device. Here are a few options you can look into if you are unable to provide your own device:

  • Utilize a computer at a local library or community center
  • Borrow a laptop from a friend or family member
  • Rent a laptop
  • Purchase a discounted or refurbished laptop

We strive to make our program accessible and supportive. As part of this commitment, we provide a limited supply of refurbished laptops that meet our program’s requirements. To be eligible for a device, you must complete the entire admissions process. Unfortunately, sponsored applicants are not eligible to receive a device. You can read more information about devices here, or reach out to admissions@meritamerica.org.

I want to apply, but I’m unsure if I can afford it. What options do I have?

Merit America exists to support learners in transitioning out of low-wage jobs into careers they love. We offer several learner-friendly options to cover your cost, including:

We believe that cost should not be a barrier to your career transition. If none of these options are available to you, Merit America has set aside a limited number of spaces for our Opportunity for All program. If you apply for an Ascent Zero Percent Loan and do not qualify, are not sponsored by your employer, and cannot pay in full upfront, you can apply for the program, which will cover 100% of the cost for Merit America.
